The incumbent is responsible for leading a group of Engineers to provide system level testing of Ciena`s Transport products.
The position includes working with product development, manufacturing, documentation and field engineering groups
Must be able to plan, organize, and supervise the work of engineers and act independently on technical subject matters.
Provide technical leadership to the Transport system validation team.
Must be able to plan, organize and coordinate delivery of work assignments
Develop and execute test plans including some or all of the following areas: Ethernet (Bridging/ VLAN/ Switching/ RSTP/ MSTP/ IGMP/ LACP/OAM), SONET/SDH, OTN, DWDM network elements
Consults with hardware and software engineering staff to identify and document functional interfaces and requirements to perform operational and performance testing at the module and overall system levels
Confers with hardware and software engineering personnel to resolve problems related to specifications and associated test plans/procedures.
Analyze test results and prepare test reports
Schedule and conduct team meetings to discuss testing needs in relation to requirements and design issues/implementations
Identify top-level scope of testing coverage to validate a project for release as a GA product
Track and confirm the project deliverables schedules and inject validation requirements
Identify and coordinate with the System Validation manager the necessary resources to complete the scoped product testing
Expertise in computer and data communication systems, networking, and fiber optic transport systems in general
Strong communications skills
Prior design or system test engineering experience.
Prior ISO/TL9000 or process engineering experience
Ability to develop test plans, procedures, acceptance and regression tests from functional specifications and system requirements
Ability to analyze and resolve complex issues
Ability to adequately document test progress and results
Proficient with a wide range of test equipment
Plans and develops engineering projects with unique or controversial problems which impact major programs
Technical skills a must, inter-personal skills equally important
Team oriented; must have ability to understand customers perspective
Strong commitment to product excellence
Optical physics and production experience
Background in systems design is a plus
Bachelors or Masters in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, or Optical Communications with experience in production and systems test roles.
